A ten session course designed
to be studied in small groups with the aid of a tutor. The course includes the following elements:-
Primary Course.
- Basic chord structures major, minor, diminished, augmented.
- Scales- relation to chords modes.
- Chord sequences blues licks turnarounds
- Improvisation the shape of tunes.
- Playing in groups Jazz Standards.
Secondary Course.
- Further improvisation.
- Building a Pad. Duke Ellington, Miles Davis.
- Licks embellishments and substitutions.
- Altered Chords, licks, turnarounds and bits and pieces.
- Performance and development.
Ideally the course is taught in groups of five or six students so that the experience of ensemble
playing is gained.It is currently running at Burton Agnes Hall in Yorkshire. There are two terms each year: Autumn and Spring.
