A ten session course designed to be studied in small groups with the aid of a tutor. The course includes the following elements:-
    Primary Course.
  1. Basic chord structures – major, minor, diminished, augmented.
  2. Scales- relation to chords – modes.
  3. Chord sequences – blues – licks – turnarounds
  4. Improvisation – the ‘shape’ of tunes.
  5. Playing in groups – Jazz Standards.
    Secondary Course.
  1. Further improvisation.
  2. Building a ‘Pad’. Duke Ellington, Miles Davis.
  3. ‘Licks’ – embellishments and substitutions.
  4. Altered Chords, licks, turnarounds and bits and pieces.
  5. Performance and development.

Ideally the course is taught in groups of five or six students so that the experience of ensemble playing is gained.It is currently running at Burton Agnes Hall in Yorkshire. There are two terms each year: Autumn and Spring.  You may prefer to follow the course on line using SKYPE for tutorials.
